World Mental Heath Day

October 10, 2015

Welcoming a new baby to the world can be a very overwhelming up & down roller-coaster for you and your partner. Up to 80% of women may experience ‘the baby blues’ between day three and day ten after birth, but these teary, irritated, moody & over sensitive feelings often pass. Post Natal Depression (PND) however can last a long time and vary in severity. PND affects up to one in seven women (almost 16 per cent) giving birth in Australia.

Dad's also play an important part in the health & wellbeing of their family. New Dad's also report a range of emotions - from being the greatest experience of their lives to the horror of seeing their partner in pain. Click here to download A Dad's Handbook : A guide to the first 12 months.

World Mental Health Day is a day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy. This year the focus is to reduce the stigma associated with mental health, connect the community around mental health issues and encourage sufferers to seek help. If you are experiencing any signs of depression, contact your local GP or use resources like contact Beyond Blue to learn more.
